I am over 50, can I start yoga?
Yes, and it is never too late. You can start yoga at 50, 60, 70 or older, as long as the practice respects your body. Yoga works on mobility, balance, breathing and attention, exactly what helps you keep your independence as the years go by. The key is to choose an adapted practice and, ideally, a live one, where the teacher guides what is safe for you.
Why yoga fits this stage
It improves joint mobility and body awareness, which supports balance.
Conscious breathing calms the mind and helps with sleep and everyday stress.
It is a low-impact activity that everyone does at their own pace.
How to start safely
Begin with a beginner class or one for your age group.
Use a chair, a wall and props whenever you need. That is smart practice, not weakness.
If you have any health condition, talk to your doctor first and tell the teacher.

Is it dangerous to start yoga older?
When the practice is adapted and well guided, yoga is considered safe. The care is not to force, and to tell the teacher about any pain or limitation so movements can be adjusted.
Do I need to be able to sit on the floor?
No. There are standing, chair-based and prop-supported practices. Sitting on the floor is an option, not a requirement.
